Fresh, new, innovative love

On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.

However, the command I now write you is new, because its truth is seen in Christ and also in you. For the darkness is passing away, and the real light is already shining.

The signature of the people of Christ is their love for each other. This love does not come naturally, but through Christ. We are naturally selfish and independent, seeking our own way. But having received God's love, we begin to love as God loves; with others in mind. This love is so important, that those who do not practice it have not had the darkness removed from their lives, says Apostle John. God is love and Christ is God's light who showed God's love, demonstrated how his followers must love, will love, and can't help but love. Those in Christ love others in Christ, regardless of their social standing, sex, race, age, or ecclesiastical practices. We may even differ in theology, but if we can meet at the cross, we can share a deep love. The love that Christ followers have for one another is fresh, new and innovative; because it is the love of Christ and not from our selves. In the Old Testament, believers were told to love God and love their neighbor. But the new command is to love with Christ's love. God is loving someone in Christ through me. That is God's innovation and the love is always fresh and new.
